2017 Winning Strategies and Fundamentals of Federal Criminal Defense

The Administrative Office of the United States Courts (AO), Defender Services Office, Training Division (DSOTD) is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 2017 Winning Strategies and Fundamentals of Federal Criminal Defense seminars. These seminars will be held January 12-14, 2017, in Long Beach, California.

 

The seminars are designed for, and attendance is limited to Criminal Justice Act (CJA) practitioners, both panel attorneys and federal defender staff. There is no tuition, and materials will be provided to participants free of charge. The Winning Strategies program will begin Thursday morning, January 12th and end by mid-day on Saturday the 14th. The Fundamentals program will begin on January 12th, and it will last a day and a half, allowing participants to attend the remainder of the Winning Strategies program. Those participants who wish to attend both programs must register for each one separately.

 

The Fundamentals program, which takes place January 12-13, 2017, is designed as an overview for new federal CJA practitioners. This program addresses topics that are essential to defending clients in federal criminal cases, including discovery issues, plea negotiations, sentencing guidelines, and more. The Winning Strategies Seminar, which takes place January 12-14, 2017, brings together a dynamic group of faculty who will address a wide variety of topics specifically designed to keep panel attorneys abreast of current and important developments in federal criminal defense. The program includes both large plenary lectures as well as smaller "break-out" lectures, covering topics that meet the needs of the advanced practitioner and the less experienced attorney alike. Sessions will include subjects such as immigration trends, recurring issues in drug and gun cases, Supreme Court update, jury bias, sentencing, ethics and more.
