The Defender Services Office, Training Division (DSO-TD) is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the Persuasive Writing Workshop, which will take place August 21-23, 2017 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This program is a skills-based workshop during which participants work on one of their own cases, and learn how to use fact-busting and principles of storytelling and persuasion to integrate the facts of a case in a persuasive manner with relevant legal principles, both in appeals and at trial. This program is open to CJA panel attorneys and federal defender staff. Enrollment for this program is limited to 36 participants – priority will be given to those people who have not attended this workshop in the past. Early registration is encouraged; after the enrollment limit is met, the workshop goes into wait-list status.

There is no tuition, and materials will be provided to participants free of charge. The program will begin Monday morning, August 21, and end around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23.

Limited financial assistance may be available to qualifying CJA panel attorney registrants for travel-related expenses. A draft agenda and a financial assistance application are available on the training events page of www.fd.org.
